Disability

In 2011 and in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport,  JudoScotland created the Judo Inclusion Group (JIG) to take on the role of Disability Judo and to work together to shape the future. The vision of this group was simple, increase the number of people with a disability participating in our sport and to increase the number of coaches working with disability athletes within clubs. The key to success was the education of our coaches and by focusing on the clubs ability to cater for athletes with all disabilities.

Following the expansion of the JudoScotland, our Governing Body has never been in such a strong position to face the many challenges in recruiting and retaining young athletes with disabilities. Judo Clubs are essential to this development.

Aims

  • To encourage more athletes with a disability to participate in Judo and to help them reach their full potential
  • To integrate athletes with a disability into mainstream clubs which will give the athletes more training opportunities and allow them to access more experienced and qualified coaches
  • To provide more quality competition opportunities for athletes with a disability
  • To increase the number of coaches working with athletes with a disability and through provision of disability awareness training, it is hoped that more coaches will work with these athletes
  • To provide quality training and courses for coaches working with athletes with a disability,  by finding or creating resources to help coaches, the knowledge and experience of our coaches working with athletes with a disability should be enhanced.
