British Judo Launches Bespoke Heavyweight ProgrammePosted: 22/09/2015
British Judo are pleased to announce the launch of its Heavyweight Development Programme (HDP). As part of the 2020 Performance Pathway strategy, British Judo is establishing a programme to deliver a bespoke programme for heavyweight men and women.
The HDP will operate on a camp based programme at the British Judo Centre of Excellence with opportunities for players to experience world-class heavyweight training camps overseas which could include France, Georgia and Holland.
The HDP is focused on long-term development, where players would progress to move onto the World Class Performance Programme in the next 2-6 years.
James Thomas, Performance Pathway Senior Manager said:
"It’s clear from our recent research into the world best heavyweights that players in these weight categories need a bespoke training programme and environment. The HDP aims to create the ideal training environment for the physical and technical development of future heavyweight players. This is a really important part of our pathway strategy for the next 4-6 years taking us to the 2024 Games."
