Judo Girls Rock Hits New Highs

Posted: 07/11/2017

2017 marks a ground breaking year for Judo Girls Rock. Not only has this award winning initiative attracted more females into the sport, but for the first time has moved out of the West of Scotland. There are currently seven sessions running across the central belt with three more clubs to launch soon.

The programme is Scotland’s first girl’s only Judo programme which takes into account the barriers facing girls wishing to participate in sport, whilst also incorporating fun youth work session focusing on online safety, healthy eating and body image.

Sessions at Movement Park in Glasgow have gone from strength to strength, even hosting the very first girls only Cluster Club. The Cluster Club session attracted 31 girls to the mat from some of the most deprived areas of Glasgow. However it wasn’t just the young girls getting involved, the session also saw five mums take part in the session, inspiring not just their daughter but other females to get active.

Over in the Borders, Focus Judo Club have been keeping busy with thirty-eight girls taking to the mat to enjoy the exciting world of judo. The sessions led by Coach Irene, who had taken a break from the sport, returned to after her children decided to take up the sport, has captivated and inspired the girls ensuring their return week after week.

The Judo Girls Rock Network continues to expand with new classes starting soon:

Just Judo Lasswade starting Thursday 9th of November 2017

Fort William starting Friday 10th November 2017

Inverness start date TBC

Have You Done Judo Before?

Judo Girls Rock is growing at such speed that we need you! We need volunteers to help support our coaches on the mat, to help deliver Judo to the vast number of girls that want to take part. We don’t need you to run a session, so if you are a bit rusty or just want to encourage your daughter and other young females onto the mat, get in touch with StephenSomerville@judoscotland.com.
