Judo Girls Rock Secures Scottish Government Funding

Posted: 03/05/2019

JudoScotland are pleased to announce that Judo Girls Rock has secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Women and Girls Fund.  The Fund which aims to increase women and girls participation in sport in Scotland, supports a number of programmes across the country who aspire to achieve that goal.

Judo Girls Rock takes into account the barriers facing females in sport tailoring the on-mat sessions to suit the individual group and also incorporating fun youth work sessions, looking at health and well-being in a holistic manner. The programme is designed to engage girls in Judo in a way that is sustainable, to support them in their sporting ambitions.

Sports Minister, Joe FitzPatrick, together with sportscotland, launched the fund in October to celebrate Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week. Today he congratulated the projects who have been successful in their applications and said:

“There are so many benefits to making sport and physical activity a part of daily life. From improving physical and mental health, to developing skills and strengthening communities, the impact can be life-changing and that’s why we want as many people as possible to enjoy those benefits.

“It is encouraging to see that participation in sport and physical activity by women and girls in Scotland is increasing, but some still face barriers to taking part. The projects who will be supported through the £300,000 Women and Girls fund have shown great insight and innovation in understanding those barriers and taking steps to address them. I look forward to seeing the impact that they have."

JudoScotland are delighted to be one of the fifteen beneficiaries of this fund and look forward to delivering the next stage of this exciting project. JudoScotland Chairman, Ronnie Saez, welcomed the further recognition of the award-winning JGR project and commented that “it is immensely gratifying to see - once again - the Sport of Judo being recognised for the positive impact that it can have on both individuals and the wider Scottish society. We look forward to working with sportscotland, the Scottish Government, JudoScotland member Clubs and our local partners to bring the Sport of Judo to new geographical areas and new communities”.
