Posted: 29/08/2017

JudoScotland and sportscotland are pleased to announce the appointment of Takafumi Kitahara to the role of Assistant High Performance Coach.

Taka will be joining an already lucrative coaching team at JudoScotland, led by High Performance Coach, Euan Burton, as we look towards Tokyo 2020 and beyond.

Takafumi is a Masters graduate in Physical Education from the internationally renowned Tsukuba University, an establishment which is ranked in the Top 10 academic Universities in Japan. As a competitor Takafumi was ranked among the top -60kg athletes in Japan, however upon graduating he decided focus on coaching.

Prior to his appointment with JudoScotland, Takafumi worked as an Assistant Coach at Tsukuba University which has consistently produced World and Olympic medallists, including 4 Gold medals at the 2010 World Championships. In addition to his work within the Tsukuba University judo programme Takafumi has delivered coaching on a number of international training programmes across Asia and Europe.

JudoScotland would like to take this opportunity to wish Takafumi luck in his new position as we head into the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle. We are certain that he will be able to positively impact our Judoka for this and other world-class events.
