Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Sally Conway has been selected for the 2017 World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary from Monday 28 August to Sunday 3 September.

The -70kg judoka made her competitive return to judo in June and has medalled at both events with silvers at the Cancun Grand Prix and Bucharest European Open.

In Cancun, Conway was close to her best including a strong win over current World No.1 Elvismar Rodriguez (VEN) before losing a physical contest to Maria Bernabeu (ESP).

This will be the Scottish judoka’s first major championship since the Olympic Games last summer when she famously won bronze. Her best result at a World Championships to date has been a fifth in 2009 in Rotterdam.

She will be joined at -70kg by London Olympian Gemma Howell, who has enjoyed a strong transition up to her new weight including bronze medals at the Antalya and Cancun Grand Prix.

Conway will be in action on Friday 1 September alongside Gemma Howell, Natalie Powell (-78kg) and Max Stewart (-90kg).

The 2017 World Championships start on Monday 28 August and finishes on Sunday 3 September with the Mixed Team Event.
