Sally Conway Wins Dusseldorf Grand Slam

Sally Conway was crowned 2019 Dusseldorf Grand Slam champion after an outstanding day of judo on Saturday 23rd February 2019.
The -70kg judoka followed up her Paris Grand Slam win from 2018 with a series of impressive victories. Conway showed early dominance against Belgium's Gabriella Willems followed by her trademark newaza skills against China's Angi Sun, setting up a Quarter Final against Maria Bernabeu (Spain). Despite their previous history, Sally's form forced Bernabeu to submit in under 30 sec. Conway's skills also proved too much for Brazil’s Ellen Santana as she secured a place in the final. An arm lock against Miriam Butkereit in the final and forced her German opponent to submit.
After the final, Sally said “After going out first fight in Paris a few weeks ago, I am really happy to have won today here in Germany”
“I took each fight one by one and focussed on delivering the judo I’m capable of in each exchange.”
