SUMMARY:Kata Weekend with Sensei Yoshihiko Iura - 8th Dan (March 2026)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”150360″]We are delighted to announce we have managed to secure the return of Sensei Yohihiko Iura to coach a weekend of kata. Last year sold out pretty quickly so don’t delay and book today! \nSensei Iura is a world renowned kata expert and is a Kodokan coach and 8th Dan. This year he is going to share his knowledge in Nage no Kata and Ju no Kata and if you are interested in these kata then they are not to be missed. \nYou can purchase a two day or one day pass for the weekend\, each day has lunch included along with the technical expertise of Sensei Iura. Attendance certificates will be issued on the day and an opportunity to be assessed will be provided. \nThis course is suitable for all senior judoka\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and the wearing of a white judogi is compulsory for kata practice. Any high graded players are asked to wear their black belt during the course to keep in line with course etiquette. \nAlthough this course is suitable for coach revalidation\, it is suitable for any judoka open to self improvement and provides information to help successfully complete a judoka’s Dan grade theory. Ex-National Head Performance Coach Euan Burton MBE recently took part in a kata course with the IJF and commented\, \n“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience of kata during the IJF Academy coaching course. The kata practice really promoted a deep focus on the technical fundamentals of breaking balance\, correct positioning\, and control of the throw. I also enjoyed the element of teamwork that was required between uke and tori in order to most positively display each demonstration”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2FEventsAndBookings%2Fbooking-details%2FE7D756F21EF635BF9162C0658A3B3C62E8B5011B%2F|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”198036″]Click Here to Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Katame no Kata Course (April 2026)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”641662″]Interested in improving your technical knowledge and ability\, would you like to know more about developing your own judo. Kata has a fundamental place in all judokas development and is an integral part of Kano’s teachings\, kata will hone your technical understanding and application of the technique whilst the randori (not contest training) will challenge and test the skill you have learned. \nOur Katame no Kata course will be run by David Gibson 5th Dan & Colin Dunlop 4th Dan who are BJA Kata Examiners and are medallists from the 2023 & 2024 British Kata Championships. Using their extensive knowledge of Kata they will take you through the course in a way that will provide you with a deeper understanding of the content for you to either develop further yourself or pass on to your students within the club. \nThis course is suitable for judoka over the age of 13 years\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and if possible a white judogi is preferred for kata practice. Opportunities to obtain a kata qualification can be discussed on the course and generally kata examinations are held at National Gradings. \nAlthough this course is suitable for coach revalidation\, it is suitable for any judoka open to self improvement and provides information to help successfully complete a judoka’s Dan grade theory.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2FEventsAndBookings%2Fbooking-details%2FE23D3480DF319DF62506C91B4CD5F185E395A4F9″ uncode_shortcode_id=”200086″]Book Your Space Here[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Mechanics to Mastery
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”538844″] \nTechnical Deconstruction and Physical Preparation for Judo Techniques\nThis course is designed to equip coaches with the skills and knowledge to deconstruct judo techniques into their essential technical and physical components. By understanding each element individually\, coaches can more effectively identify limiting factors in a judoka’s performance and implement targeted development strategies before rebuilding the complete technique. \nThrough a combination of practical application\, movement analysis\, and progressive coaching methods\, participants will learn how to isolate key technical points\, assess physical readiness\, and prescribe appropriate conditioning or skill-based interventions. \nFor example\, a judoka may clearly understand the coaching points for Uchi Mata\, yet lack the ability to maintain stable single-leg balance—a fundamental requirement for the throw. In such cases\, coaches must first address balance\, proprioception\, and lower-limb stability before expecting consistent success in the full technique. \nSimilarly\, when teaching Ippon Seoi Nage\, the tori must be capable of performing a controlled squatting action under load. If this movement pattern is underdeveloped\, the course emphasises the importance of building leg strength\, mobility\, and coordination prior to progressing to full technical execution. \nBy the end of the course\, coaches will be able to: \n\n\nBreak techniques down into manageable\, progressive components \n\n\nIdentify technical\, physical\, and movement-based limitations \n\n\nSelect appropriate drills and conditioning exercises to strengthen each component \n\n\nReintegrate refined elements to improve overall technical performance \n\n\nThis approach ensures that judoka develop both the understanding and the physical capability required to perform techniques safely\, effectively\, and with confidence. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-207544″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2FEventsAndBookings%2Fbooking-details%2F756F54C6C3C7311FD7702348F9E0857851D84C7C” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” uncode_shortcode_id=”122194″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS): Virtual Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”481538″]Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS) supersedes the previous Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) course.  The training will provide you with the knowledge on child wellbeing and protection that will give you the confidence to deal with issues that may arise in your role working with children. \nSuitable for: \n16 years + who are in regulated work\, delivering or leading sporting activities. \nPlease note\, if your CWPS certificate is about to expire\, you are eligible to complete the CWPS Renewal Award instead of repeating the full course (provided your completed the full course at your last renewal). \nsportscotland is offering coaches and volunteers (the learner) the opportunity to advance their learning in CWPS\, by giving access to renewal modules in various topics. Instead of just repeating CWPS training after 3 years (i.e completing module 1 & 2)\, the learner can renew their certificate for another 3 years by completing a series of eLearning. This learning is then valid for another 3 years and it is only then that the learner must complete the whole CWPS training again. \nLearners can self-register for the Renewal Award here: https://sportscotland.org.uk/safeguarding-in-sport/child-wellbeing-and-protection/training/child-wellbeing-and-protection-in-sport-renewal-award \nIf you would like to complete the full CWPS course\, details are below: \nModule 1 \neLearning module introduces you to the basic theory\, knowledge and practice which underpins child wellbeing and protection in sport. On average it should take around 30 minutes to complete the module and you MUST complete this module before attending Module 2. \nBy the end of module 1 learners will be able to: \n\nUnderstand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’\nRecognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and protection\nIdentify good practise in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment\nRecognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection\nIdentify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns\nIdentify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support\n\nModule 2 \nA 3 hour training course led by one of sportscotland’s approved tutors.  Learners must complete both modules to gain the qualification and receive their certificate. \nBy the end of module 2 learners will: \n\nBe introduced to the Spectrum of Practice and use it to consider\, evaluate and respond to common coaching scenarios\nReceive an introduction to the factors that create a culture of poor practice\nIdentify barriers to disclosure\nCover the process for responding to concerns\nPut the responding to concerns process into practice to deal with serval complex cases\n\nAccess to module 1: Brightspace \nsportscotland has recently developed a new registration and certification process using a virtual learning environment – “Brightspace”. \nWhen you book onto a CWPS course through JudoScotland\, you will then be given access to Brightspace. This is where you will complete Module 1. When using Brightspace this can only be accessed on Chrome /Safari/Firefox browsers. Internet explorer browser is no longer supported. \nCertificates \nOnce you have completed module 1 and attended module 2\, your Tutor will approve the release of your certificate. It will be available to download from your Brightspace portfolio within 24 hours of completing[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-207544″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2FEventsAndBookings%2Fbooking-details%2F1A5009260EAE2BF2CF23445ABD052A7766A9BA43|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” uncode_shortcode_id=”128957″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:JudoScotland Technical Kyu & Dan National Grading Weekend
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”180507″]Exciting Opportunity: \n  \nJudoScotland National 1st Kyu and Dan Technical Grading Weekend – a weekend of judo where you may complete the requirements for your next technical grade? \n  \nWhat is a technical Dan grade? \n  \nThe Technical Dan grade is a qualification based on technical knowledge and understanding. The examiner will test that the candidate understands the key principles involved in the application of the techniques\, demonstrating where appropriate best grip\, attacking opportunity & movement. \nThere are many ways the exam may be carried out depending on any physical restrictions the candidate may have. The candidate is expected to have a greater depth of knowledge as they progress through the grades and will be examined on a progressively greater number of elements in each section to a progressively higher standard. \n  \nDo it while you still can! \n  \nThere are many judoka that have a reason to ‘put off’ the learning and training for the next promotion only to regret it later on when lifestyle changes or injury prevent it. The judo grading system is great motivation to keep yourself active and expand your judo knowledge. \n  \nAm I eligible? \n  \nThis opportunity is open to all JudoScotland members graded between 1st Kyu to 4th Dan (you must have been a 1st Kyu for a minimum of 5 years and be a minimum age of 20 to apply for 1st Dan). If you have not yet reached the minimum time in grade you can still attend the weekend\, pass the necessary sections of the theory\, then sit back and wait until you are eligible to apply for your grade. \n  \nNote: \nAchievement of a new grade is attained by passing an examination and is in no way guaranteed. If you are unsuccessful you will be provided with feedback on the areas for development\, may well have at least some of the sections complete and will hopefully enjoy a great weekend of judo with great people![/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-574589″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3D1D429A47FBECE04C3759C2B8F12A9F462B38F225|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” icon=”fa fa-ticket2″ uncode_shortcode_id=”170115″]Book Event[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

It will be available to download from your Brightspace portfolio within 24 hours of completing[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-207544″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2FEventsAndBookings%2Fbooking-details%2F2A93A4864AF5CE4C9A64CA062C3D39FEA8EE956F|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” uncode_shortcode_id=”982548″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]
