SUMMARY:Nage no Kata Course
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”699528″]https://www.tiktok.com/@judoscotland/video/7109396496755199238?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7248923702392522267 \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”147974″] \nInterested in improving your technical knowledge and ability\, would you like to know more about developing your own judo. Kata has a fundamental place in all judokas development and is an integral part of Kano’s teachings\, kata will hone your technical understanding and application of the technique whilst the randori (not contest training) will challenge and test the skill you have learned. \nOver the last decade we have been delighted to work with Alex Reid 6th Dan and Paul Laverty 5th Dan\, both of whom work as BJA kata examiners\, as multiple winners of the British Kata championships they have represented GB many times internationally competing in European and World finals. Alex and Paul will be your course leaders for the Nage no Kata and they will guide you through each set leaving you with a deeper understanding on how to improve your judo. \nThis course is suitable for judoka over the age of 13 years\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and if possible a white judogi is preferred for kata practice. Opportunities to obtain a kata qualification can be discussed on the course and generally kata examinations are held at National Gradings. \nAlthough this course is suitable for coach revalidation\, it is suitable for any judoka open to self improvement and provides information to help successfully complete a judoka’s Dan grade theory. Our National Head Performance Coach Euan Burton MBE recently took part in a kata course with the IJF and commented\, \n“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience of kata during the IJF Academy coaching course. The kata practice really promoted a deep focus on the technical fundamentals of breaking balance\, correct positioning\, and control of the throw. I also enjoyed the element of teamwork that was required between uke and tori in order to most positively display each demonstration”. \nWhy not get a head start and check out the links below: \nKodokan kata info \nKata videos \nKata resources \n[/vc_column_text][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3DCFE0177A045AC26D54A4187BF0AB1FAA6BE8E8E9|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”119737″]Book your space here[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:JudoScotland National Kyu and Dan & JudoScotland Veterans National 1st Kyu and Dan Grading
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”823478″]Our third National Kyu and Dan of 2024 is set to take place on the 10th of November at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility. We are thrilled to also be including a Veterans National 1st Kyu and Dan Grading as part of the event.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”104629″ media_width_percent=”100″ uncode_shortcode_id=”704445″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”151937″] \nImportant Information\n\nYou must have a current JudoScotland or BJA Membership to enter a grading event. All theory assessments will be conducted at the start of the day; this will be followed by a formal welcome with all participants from the theory exam and competitive grading.\nIf you would like to book a place for a theory assessment please do so by ticking the “Theory exam” box. Only by ticking this box will an assessment opportunity be guaranteed.\nThe expected finish time is 4 pm approximately and all participants within the Dan grading MUST make themselves available for contests until the Senior Examiners close the proceedings. Failure to adhere to this may result in the non-validation of the points you have attained.\nAny candidate presenting themselves for a Technical Dan Grade assessment should familiarise themselves with British Judo’s guidelines.\nDepending on the specific grade\, the candidate may require several assessments to complete the required technical content.\n\nChanges to Competitive Dan Grading Contest Durations\nJudoScotland is introducing a key change to contest durations for Competitive Dan Gradings to align with the British Judo Association’s (BJA) Dan Grade Promotion Syllabus. SUMMARY:Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport: Virtual Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”291052″]Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS) supersedes the previous Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) course.  The training will provide you with the knowledge on child wellbeing and protection that will give you the confidence to deal with issues that may arise in your role working with children. \nSuitable for: \n16 years + who are in regulated work\, delivering or leading sporting activities. \nPlease note\, if your CWPS certificate is about to expire\, you are eligible to complete the CWPS Renewal Award instead of repeating the full course (provided your completed the full course at your last renewal). \nsportscotland is offering coaches and volunteers (the learner) the opportunity to advance their learning in CWPS\, by giving access to renewal modules in various topics. Instead of just repeating CWPS training after 3 years (i.e completing module 1 & 2)\, the learner can renew their certificate for another 3 years by completing a series of eLearning. This learning is then valid for another 3 years and it is only then that the learner must complete the whole CWPS training again. \nLearners can self-register for the Renewal Award here: https://sportscotland.org.uk/safeguarding-in-sport/child-wellbeing-and-protection/training/child-wellbeing-and-protection-in-sport-renewal-award \nIf you would still like to complete the full CWPS course\, details are below: \nModule 1 \neLearning module introduces you to the basic theory\, knowledge and practice which underpins child wellbeing and protection in sport. On average it should take around 30 minutes to complete the module and you MUST complete this module before attending Module 2. \nBy the end of module 1 learners will be able to: \n\nUnderstand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’\nRecognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and protection\nIdentify good practise in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment\nRecognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection\nIdentify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns\nIdentify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support\n\nModule 2 \nA 3 hour face-to-face training course led by one of sportscotland’s approved tutors.  Learners must complete both modules to gain the qualification and receive their certificate.  Due to COVID19 restrictions Module 2 can be delivered virtually.  The Approved Tutor list indicates which tutors are able to deliver virtually. \nBy the end of module 2 learners will: \n\nBe introduced to the Spectrum of Practice and use it to consider\, evaluate and respond to common coaching scenarios\nReceive an introduction to the factors that create a culture of poor practice\nIdentify barriers to disclosure\nCover the process for responding to concerns\nPut the responding to concerns process into practice to deal with serval complex cases\n\nAccess to module 1: Brightspace \nsportscotland has recently developed a new registration and certification process using a virtual learning environment – “Brightspace”. \nWhen you book onto a CWPS course through JudoScotland\, you will then be given access to Brightspace. This is where you will complete Module 1. When using Brightspace this can only be accessed on Chrome /Safari/Firefox browsers. Internet explorer browser is no longer supported. \nCertificates \nOnce you have completed module 1 and attended module 2\, your Tutor will approve the release of your certificate. It will be available to download from your Brightspace portfolio within 24 hours of completing \n[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-207544″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3D1FCF411F0A08791C81E993AABE88AB358E40D1B7|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” uncode_shortcode_id=”715616″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Safe Falling Session for Coaches
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”418737″]Following two very different and successful pilots JudoScotland is now in a position to introduce the British Judo concept of ‘Finding Your Feet’. This programme aims to use Judo as a medium to provide a better quality of life for older people by improving their movement and increasing their confidence and relationship with the floor. We invite coaches to come along\, listen to the stories behind our pilots at Garioch & Carnegie Judo clubs\, try out some of the practical elements and join in on the discussion about how you would take this forward for your club. \nInformation from British Judo Below \nFalls are an important problem for older people and society. By 2030 the world is predicted to have 1 billion older people (65+)\, accounting for 13% of the total population. This brings societal challenges to fnd ways to help improve quality of life of these older people. Often just the fear of falling can provoke older people to fall more often. \nFalls among the over 65s cost the NHS £4.6 million per day. Data suggests that 33% of people over 65\, and 50% of people over 80\, fall at least once a year. Falls are the most common cause of death from injury in the over 65s. \nOlder people are scared of falling. The fear of falling results in the avoidance of activity. Avoidance of activity can lead of loss of muscle strength leading to less ability to control movement\, further compromising balance\, increasing the likelihood of having a fall and increasing further the fear of falling. The fear of falling can contribute to psychological conditions such as depression. Fear of falling can lead to less participation in social activities and increase feelings of isolation and loneliness with the consequent negative impact on mental health and wellbeing. \nThere is clear evidence of a relationship between fear of falling and falls incidence. Reducing fear of falling leads to reduced number of falls. In judo\, we teach participants how to unbalance their partner and throw them to the mat\, as well as how to avoid losing their balance\, how to fall safely\, and how to get up easily. Judo coaches are trained and qualifed in teaching people how to avoid losing their balance and fall safely. Because of the physical contact\, judo can help give a sense of belonging and combat loneliness and contribute towards a better quality of life. \nA number of solutions using judo are emerging; Adapted Utilitarian Judo (AUJ) uses technical elements of traditional judo adapted to the requirements of the older adult population. The AUJ programme emerged from research work at the University of Sevilla in Spain. Judo4Balance is judo inspired workplace programme based in Sweden\, teaching techniques for safe landing when falling. In the Netherlands there has been a programme of Martial Arts Falls Training based on judo. In Japan\, Dr Kamitani\, the doctor to the All-Japan National Team has taught the ‘Yawara chan taiso’ system to older people at the Kodokan for many years. In the UK\, research has been conducted at the Universities of Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin which draws on several global projects. \nOur approach in British Judo is to empower our coaches to use their skills and expertise to help older people learn to fall in a safer way.[/vc_column_text][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2Fpublic%2FEventsAndBookingsPublic%2Fdetails%2FBC68223EABFCA817C8E76A50460AE1D484B20D1A%2F|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”147259″]Sign Up Here[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

It will be available to download from your Brightspace portfolio within 24 hours of completing \n[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-207544″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2Fpublic%2FEventsAndBookingsPublic%2Fdetails%2F2F43D8C4CE9F68D125777524E27452C6072A91C8|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” uncode_shortcode_id=”146224″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:2025 The Scottish All Stars Championship - Developing star qualities in Scottish Judoka
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”370399″]The Scottish All Stars Championship focuses on providing a fun experience that appropriately challenges young judoka at this stage in their development. The aim is to maximise the time on the mat whilst introducing more competitive elements of judo. SUMMARY:British Judo Contest Rules Update Seminar
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”411573″]Referees of all levels are invited to attend a virtual rule update seminar at 7:00pm on Tuesday 11th February led by British Judo’s Refereeing Commission. \nCoaches with other BJA members also welcome to attend. \nIt comes following the announcement that following approval by the BJA\, the International Judo Federation’s 2025 contest rules will be adopted\, with limited adaptations for younger judoka\, at all British events effective from 22nd February 2025\, beginning with the English Open. \nThe new rules have been introduced following a review of the 2022-24 Olympic cycle to increase the opportunities to score and win\, to provide greater technical freedom to judoka and to reduce the number of technical penalties and disqualifications awarded. \nWe are adopting the new ruleset at pace in the expectation that this will maximise the opportunity for judoka and officials to learn and benefit from the new rules. However\, this will be a learning experience for everyone – coaches\, athletes and referees – and we would ask that everyone acknowledge and show understanding that some mistakes will be a natural part of adapting to the new ruleset. We would like to remind the judo community of our morale code whilst all parties adapt to the new rules. \nFull details of the 2025 rules and the BJA application of them are available in updated rulebooks on British Judo’s Contest Rules section\, with all existing BJA amendments (eg. technical restrictions) will continue to apply alongside these changes.[/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-574589″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.britishjudo.org.uk%2Fevent%2Fcontest-rules-update-seminar%2F|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” icon=”fa fa-ticket2″ uncode_shortcode_id=”510124″]Book Event[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]
