The Gathering received ‘Best educational seminar’ from the EJU in 2017 and in 2018 went on to deliver a bigger and better event. We will not be making The Gathering bigger this year but will strive to continue to improve the event for 2019 and onwards.
The Gathering itself is a fantastic way of getting new ideas and inspiration for coaches and players alike, but is once a year enough? How many coaches have time to practice themselves? It is hard work and a lot of dedication running a club and JudoScotland recognise that we need to continue to strive for technical excellence so coaches can continue to develop talented individuals within their clubs.
As a result, we have launched a series of ‘The Gathering technical excellence sessions’. To do this we have recruited the assistance of a number of our top coaches and players to deliver a consistent message of excellent fundamental judo. Takafumi Kitahara is our Assistant High Performance Coach and a graduate of Tsukuba University, who will lead our programme off in January and will be followed throughout the year by Olympian, World and Commonwealth medallist John Buchanan, Olympic Silver medallist Gemma Burton, High Performance Coach, Double Olympian, two time World medallist and Commonwealth Champion Euan Burton MBE, Double Olympian, World and Commonwealth Champion Graeme Randall MBE and World and two time European Champion Loretta Cusack-Doyle plus many more over the next year or two.
Our experts all have their speciality techniques that propelled them onto the world stage but key to all of the techniques that will be shared is the excellent understanding of fundamental movement within their judo.
The sessions will give you the tools that will allow you to build your technical knowledge and further develop your understanding of judo principles.
The sessions are very much focused on the process of building the techniques and not the end result, if you have good processes you will have a good product.
Come along to the sessions and take part in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, the sessions are aimed at coaches and by attending two of the sessions a coach gains a revalidation credit.
The sessions are open to everyone in the same way the Gathering operates so we are happy to have 13 years + attending the sessions.
