Lockdown Grading

At this time when we all face challenges to the way we live our lives, JudoScotland have continued to look at how best we can support the clubs and our members in Scotland. With the knowledge that remaining physically active, especially during such times as this, is a positive step towards maintaining good health and wellbeing, we have looked at how judo can continue to contribute even though we can’t make it on the mat.

With lots of great content being delivered by the clubs via various social media platforms that is engaging the members in physical activity, developing their judo skills and in some cases learning new ones, we have explored the potential for rewarding continued judo activity and progress through a grading assessment and allowing the judoka to achieve their next grade.

You will find below some links to documents that provide more detailed information regarding the ‘Lockdown Grading’, video clip examples of how one coach is delivering the scheme and additional opportunities for coaches to join a conversation and chat through how the scheme could work for you.

 Guide to a Lockdown Grading

JudoScotland have put together a resource to explain more about the Lockdown Grading opportunity, with information which may be useful to clubs who are planning to participate, participants and parents whose children may be participating. We would recommend speaking to your coach, as this opportunity may not be suitable for everyone and clubs may not wish to participate.

Clubs and Coaches Support Information

This document has some top tips for clubs who wish to participate in a lockdown grading, along with a member communication template and a flowchart showing the process of a lockdown grading.

Video Resources

The following clips have been produced by JudoScotland Vice Chair, and UKCC Level 3 coach, Marc Preston to demonstrate how a Lockdown Grading may be delivered for Kai grades.

Have you developed a similar resource to support your engagement with your members? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Lockdown Grading Chatroom

JudoScotland are hosting a series of Zoom 'Chat Rooms' for all clubs and coaches that would like the opportunity to discuss the scheme further and explore how it could work for their members. Dates and times will be published regularly via all our social media channels.
