2019 Senior World ChampionshipsPosted: 16/08/2019
It’s just over a week to go until the 2019 Senior World Championships being held in Tokyo (25-31 August). 873 competitors from 150 countries will compete for glory across 7 days in the Japanese capital.
British Judo have named a 14-strong team, with 3 Scots included in this number. Sally Conway, Sarah Adlington and Stuart McWatt will be heading out to Japan as they attempt to secure their first World Championship medals. The likes of Nekoda Smythe-Davis ( -57kg), Gemma Howell (-70kg) and Ashley McKenzie (60kg) will be joining our athletes, off the back of some impressive performances this year.
Conway (-70kg) goes into the tournament as 6th seed, and will be hoping to add a World Championship medal to her collection. Adlington (+78kg) will be hoping to improve upon her 5th place finish at the 2018 World Championships while Stuart McWatt (-81kg) goes into his second World Championships off the back of some good results recently, notably a 7th place finish in the 2019 European Games. The Championships are great preparation for our athletes as they look towards the 2020 Olympic Games, also being held in Tokyo.
All at JudoScotland would like to wish Sally, Sarah, Stuart and all the British Judo team the best of luck.
