East of Scotland Judo Girls Rock 2016Posted: 26/09/2016
Following on from the success of Judo Girls Rock in 2015, the East of Scotland programme returns this autumn for what is set to be a bigger and better second year.
Judo Girls Rocks is designed to engage young females a group at high risk of inactivity, through girls only judo sessions designed to break down the barriers that many young females feel when participating in sport. Research has highlighted that only 41% of girls aged 13-15 in Scotland meet the target of an hour’s physical activity a day.
The four week Programme will kick off with sessions being delivered by three clubs across the region Outreach Judo (Peebles), Focus Judo Club (Galashiels) and Jidel Judo 93 (Livingston). Following on from the success of Outreach Judo and Jidel Judo 93 programmes last year, Focus Judo Club have joined the ranks to deliver a third session in Galashiels.
The Girl’s programme is keen to develop female coaches and volunteers, as well as increasing female participation in Judo. With only one year under the programmes belt, three young female coaches have already progressed on their coaching journey, with two completing their UKCC Level 1 Course and one more on their way.
