Glasgow European Open Round UpPosted: 17/10/2016
This Saturday saw over 200 Judoka from 30 counties take to the mat Emirates Arena in Glasgow for the fourth consecutive year. This year was the first time the Glasgow European Open hosted both male and female Judoka on the same weekend, with all 14 weight categories fighting on the same day and what an exciting day of judo it was.
Results for Scotland
The weekend saw a number of notable results for Scottish athletes, In particular a bronze for local boy Neil MacDonald (-60kg). After losing out in the quarter-finals, Neil progressed through the repechage to beat German Philip Graf to win bronze.
The weekend also saw results for Scottish judoka Calin Calder (-100kg) and Malin Wilson (-57kg) who managed to secure a place in the top seven within their weight category.
Sam Ingram Masterclass
Once again the JudoScotland development zone was a huge success, engaging over 60 children across the Mad About Judo Zone and the JudoScotland masterclass.
This year’s masterclass was hosted by three time Paralympian Samuel Ingram, who gave a unique session looking at Ochi gari and understanding your opponents reactions.
This year’s Mad About Judo Zone was bigger and better than before with stations set up to look at the different elements of physical literacy and how it can impact upon your judo, through fun and engaging activities.
