JUDOSCOTLAND OFFICE CLOSURE

Posted: 19/03/2020

Dear Fellow Judoka,

As we have highlighted previously, JudoScotland has been monitoring the information and advice being provided by the Westminster Government, Scottish Government and NHS Scotland around the current Coronavirus outbreak.

In light of the current response to the outbreak, members will be aware of the imminent school closures within and across Scotland and the current advice of avoiding non-essential travel and ‘social distancing’.

As a consequence of these actions, Edinburgh Leisure has taken the decision to close the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, Ratho - where the JudoScotland office is based - effective this evening.

Therefore with effect from 1630 hours today, Thursday 19 March, the JudoScotland office will be closed. Although we find ourselves in the position where we have had to close the actual office doors - the ‘virtual’ office doors remain open!

In terms of communication and with immediate effect, it would be appreciated if any contact with the JudoScotland office could be via email to: info@judoscotland.com.

If you do telephone the JudoScotland office, please do not leave a message on the answer-machine as we currently do not know when we will be able to pick up your message, or respond to it.

Individual Members

We recognise that the current situation affects everyone, but will also pass with time. To that end, we are placing on hold all individual memberships for an initial period of 8 weeks, effective from today’s date. This will then be reviewed following this period.

We will also continue to issue communications, in line with the latest guidance from the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland, as and when this is appropriate.

Our teams will also be looking at ways of keeping you updated, informed and up-skilled with regards to your Judo during the current challenges that we all face. We will review whether additional, non-contact (electronic) activities can be provided to support your on-going development and Judo journey.

Member Clubs

In the coming days our staff members will make contact with every Member Club across Scotland to ascertain your unique situation and potential needs and support.

We appreciate that our Member Clubs span a range of sizes and operations. The Government has recently intimated a range of financial measures linked with the current outbreak that may be open to assist Judo Clubs in the short to medium term. Should you think that this could be of benefit to your Club/business, please call the business helpline number on 0300 303 0660. The helpline will be open Monday to Friday 0830 hours to 1730 hours. Callers should select option one to speak to the COVID-19 team.

The wellbeing, health and safety of all judoka, coaches and our valued volunteers continues to be at the forefront of our thoughts and therefore we would ask all members to please continue to follow the official advice coming out of the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland and make use of their online resources for up-to-date information about the Coronavirus.

On behalf of everyone at JudoScotland – and in line with the Judo moral code -  please look after yourself, your family and those friends and neighbours around you (if you are able), to minimise the impact of the current situation.

Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.

Ronnie Saez, Chairman
