A double Olympic silver medallist\, World Champion\, and five-time European Champion\, Neil is the most decorated male judoka in British history. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport\, he was awarded the prestigious 9th Dan by the International Judo Federation (IJF). \nNeil serves as the ambassador for the JudoScotland Coaching Academy and is a familiar face at our annual Gathering. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”171378″]The Level 1 Coaching Course is designed to provide aspiring coaches with the foundational skills\, knowledge\, and confidence needed to deliver effective and safe coaching sessions. It serves as the first step in your coaching journey\, equipping you to support players in their development while fostering a positive training environment. \nMinimum requirements for entry to the course: \n\nApplicants MUST be a current member of JudoScotland for at least one calendar year prior to application.\nAge : 16 years + (must be 16 years old by the start date of the course)\nGrade : 2nd Kyu (Blue belt)\n\nBLENDED LEARNING FORMAT \nWe now have a blended learning approach to our coaching system\, so please read on before going ahead and booking the course. Prior to attending you will have to complete an online section which we have given you two weeks to complete. Once registration is closed\, all the candidates will be sent a link to our Bright Space platform for you to work through the online modules. \n\nRegister\nBookings will close on the 11th April at 12 noon\nOnce bookings close\, you will be sent a link to register with Bright Space\nDuring this period you complete the online content\nAttend the course venue in person on the 26th April 2025\n\nVIDEO assessment by the 13th June 2025. \nPlease ensure when signing up for this course you are able to attend all of the dates shown above.  \nAll candidates must be familiar with the Mon/Kyu grade syllabus prior to the course starting. \nPLEASE READ PAYMENT INFORMATION BELOW \nThe cost for this course is £200 \n*Number of funded places will be limited to 16\, course cost will be £200 thereafter. \n*Assessments completed past the assessment dates forfeit funding and will be chargeable at £75 per assessment. \nOver the last fifteen years JudoScotland have received a subsidy from sportscotland to make coaching more affordable to a wider audience. \nIn 2024/25 sportscotland have updated their focus to shine a spotlight on EDI. The examiner will test that the candidate understands the key principles involved in the application of the techniques\, demonstrating where appropriate best grip\, attacking opportunity & movement. \nThere are many ways the exam may be carried out depending on any physical restrictions the candidate may have. The candidate is expected to have a greater depth of knowledge as they progress through the grades and will be examined on a progressively greater number of elements in each section to a progressively higher standard. \n  \nDo it while you still can!  \n  \nThere are many judoka that have a reason to ‘put off’ the learning and training for the next promotion only to regret it later on when lifestyle changes or injury prevent it. The judo grading system is great motivation to keep yourself active and expand your judo knowledge. \n  \nAm I eligible? \n  \nThis opportunity is open to all JudoScotland members graded between 1st Kyu to 4th Dan (you must have been a 1st Kyu for a minimum of 5 years and be a minimum age of 20 to apply for 1st Dan). If you have not yet reached the minimum time in grade you can still attend the weekend\, pass the necessary sections of the theory\, then sit back and wait until you are eligible to apply for your grade. \n  \nNote:  \nAchievement of a new grade is attained by passing an examination and is in no way guaranteed. If you are unsuccessful you will be provided with feedback on the areas for development\, may well have at least some of the sections complete and will hopefully enjoy a great weekend of judo with great people! \nPlease note that with changes to the BJA Dan Grade Syllabus coming into effect next year\, if a candidate completes their Technical Skills examination by 31st December 2025\, but has not yet satisfied the time in grade criteria\, they will not be required to complete the new skills examination\, the completed examination will be honoured. It serves as the first step in your coaching journey\, equipping you to support players in their development while fostering a positive training environment. \nMinimum requirements for entry to the course: \n\nApplicants MUST be a current member of JudoScotland for at least one calendar year prior to application.\nAge : 16 years + (must be 16 years old by the start date of the course)\nGrade : 2nd Kyu (Blue belt)\n\nBLENDED LEARNING FORMAT \nWe now have a blended learning approach to our coaching system\, so please read on before going ahead and booking the course. Prior to attending you will have to complete an online section which we have given you two weeks to complete. Once registration is closed\, all the candidates will be sent a link to our Bright Space platform for you to work through the online modules. \n\nRegister\nBookings will close on the 11th April at 12 noon\nOnce bookings close\, you will be sent a link to register with Bright Space\nDuring this period you complete the online content\nAttend the course venue in person on the 26th April 2025\n\nVIDEO assessment by the 13th June 2025. \nPlease ensure when signing up for this course you are able to attend all of the dates shown above.  \nAll candidates must be familiar with the Mon/Kyu grade syllabus prior to the course starting. \nPLEASE READ PAYMENT INFORMATION BELOW \nThe cost for this course is £200 \n*Number of funded places will be limited to 16\, course cost will be £200 thereafter. \n*Assessments completed past the assessment dates forfeit funding and will be chargeable at £75 per assessment. \nOver the last fifteen years JudoScotland have received a subsidy from sportscotland to make coaching more affordable to a wider audience. \nIn 2024/25 sportscotland have updated their focus to shine a spotlight on EDI. Since athletes face many challenges\, parents can help them handle setbacks and external pressures. \n\n\nUnder Anti-Doping Rules\, athletes are responsible for any prohibited substances in their system\, even unintentionally. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”492652″]From the 1st of April 2025\, Disclosure Scotland will be implementing a new law\, the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. \nThe Act aims to improve Scotland’s disclosure system by reducing unnecessary barriers for individuals with convictions when seeking employment or other opportunities. It will also strengthen the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. \nThis change in legislation will mean that there will be some changes for judo clubs and for JudoScotland around the PVG scheme.
