SUMMARY:Safe Falling Session for Coaches
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”418737″]Following two very different and successful pilots JudoScotland is now in a position to introduce the British Judo concept of ‘Finding Your Feet’. This programme aims to use Judo as a medium to provide a better quality of life for older people by improving their movement and increasing their confidence and relationship with the floor. We invite coaches to come along\, listen to the stories behind our pilots at Garioch & Carnegie Judo clubs\, try out some of the practical elements and join in on the discussion about how you would take this forward for your club. \nInformation from British Judo Below \nFalls are an important problem for older people and society. By 2030 the world is predicted to have 1 billion older people (65+)\, accounting for 13% of the total population. This brings societal challenges to fnd ways to help improve quality of life of these older people. Often just the fear of falling can provoke older people to fall more often. \nFalls among the over 65s cost the NHS £4.6 million per day. Data suggests that 33% of people over 65\, and 50% of people over 80\, fall at least once a year. Falls are the most common cause of death from injury in the over 65s. \nOlder people are scared of falling. The fear of falling results in the avoidance of activity. Avoidance of activity can lead of loss of muscle strength leading to less ability to control movement\, further compromising balance\, increasing the likelihood of having a fall and increasing further the fear of falling. The fear of falling can contribute to psychological conditions such as depression. Fear of falling can lead to less participation in social activities and increase feelings of isolation and loneliness with the consequent negative impact on mental health and wellbeing. \nThere is clear evidence of a relationship between fear of falling and falls incidence. Reducing fear of falling leads to reduced number of falls. In judo\, we teach participants how to unbalance their partner and throw them to the mat\, as well as how to avoid losing their balance\, how to fall safely\, and how to get up easily. Judo coaches are trained and qualifed in teaching people how to avoid losing their balance and fall safely. Because of the physical contact\, judo can help give a sense of belonging and combat loneliness and contribute towards a better quality of life. \nA number of solutions using judo are emerging; Adapted Utilitarian Judo (AUJ) uses technical elements of traditional judo adapted to the requirements of the older adult population. The AUJ programme emerged from research work at the University of Sevilla in Spain. Judo4Balance is judo inspired workplace programme based in Sweden\, teaching techniques for safe landing when falling. In the Netherlands there has been a programme of Martial Arts Falls Training based on judo. In Japan\, Dr Kamitani\, the doctor to the All-Japan National Team has taught the ‘Yawara chan taiso’ system to older people at the Kodokan for many years. In the UK\, research has been conducted at the Universities of Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin which draws on several global projects. \nOur approach in British Judo is to empower our coaches to use their skills and expertise to help older people learn to fall in a safer way.[/vc_column_text][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2FWorkbench%2Fi%2Fr%2Fpublic%2FEventsAndBookingsPublic%2Fdetails%2FBC68223EABFCA817C8E76A50460AE1D484B20D1A%2F|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”147259″]Sign Up Here[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Kime no Kata
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ uncode_shortcode_id=”338391″]Information:[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”776849″] \nWe have the pleasure of introducing ten time British Kime no Kata Champions Bob and Ricky Cleevely. They are amongst the most knowledgeable in the country for Kime no Kata and also have a wealth of knowledge and experience within Randori no Kata and Ju no Kata. Both Bob and Ricky compete internationally with events such as the British Open\, IJF world Cups\, European and World championships\, with this wealth of experience the course on the 15th of September has not to be missed. \nKime no Kata is a series of self defence katas that were developed around 1888 by Jigoro Kano consisting of eight techniques from a kneeling posture and twelve techniques from a standing posture. They are designed to teach the fundamentals of attack and defence in actual combat and Bob and Ricky will bring these principles to life for you at Ratho. \nUnsure what Kime no Kata is about? SUMMARY:Katame no Kata Course
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”176991″] \nInterested in improving your technical knowledge and ability\, would you like to know more about developing your own judo. Kata has a fundamental place in all judokas development and is an integral part of Kano’s teachings\, kata will hone your technical understanding and application of the technique whilst the randori (not contest training) will challenge and test the skill you have learned. \nOur Katame no Kata course will be run by David Gibson 4th Dan & Colin Dunlop 4th Dan who hold the BJA Katame no Kata Level 2 award and are medalists from the 2023 British Kata Championships. Using their extensive knowledge of Kata they will take you through the course in a way that will provide you with a deeper understanding of the content for you to either develop further yourself or pass on to your students within the club. \nThis course is suitable for judoka over the age of 13 years\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and if possible a white judogi is preferred for kata practice. Opportunities to obtain a kata qualification can be discussed on the course and generally kata examinations are held at National Gradings. \nAlthough this course is suitable for coach revalidation\, it is suitable for any judoka open to self improvement and provides information to help successfully complete a judoka’s Dan grade theory. Our National Head Performance Coach Euan Burton MBE recently took part in a kata course with the IJF and commented\, \n“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience of kata during the IJF Academy coaching course. The kata practice really promoted a deep focus on the technical fundamentals of breaking balance\, correct positioning\, and control of the throw. I also enjoyed the element of teamwork that was required between uke and tori in order to most positively display each demonstration”. \nWhy not get a head start and check out the links below: \nKodokan kata info \nKata videos \nKata resources \n[/vc_column_text][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3D05E24F289AA66A0DBC1BBCC5605CB3F039A39967|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”145977″]Book Your Space Here [/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:JudoScotland Technical 1st Kyu & Dan National Grading Weekend
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”147377″]Exciting Opportunity: \n  \nJudoScotland National 1st Kyu and Dan Technical Grading Weekend – a weekend of judo where you may complete the requirements for your next technical grade? \n  \nWhat is a technical Dan grade? \n  \nThe Technical Dan grade is a qualification based on technical knowledge and understanding. The examiner will test that the candidate understands the key principles involved in the application of the techniques\, demonstrating where appropriate best grip\, attacking opportunity & movement. \nThere are many ways the exam may be carried out depending on any physical restrictions the candidate may have. The candidate is expected to have a greater depth of knowledge as they progress through the grades and will be examined on a progressively greater number of elements in each section to a progressively higher standard. \n  \nDo it while you still can! \n  \nThere are many judoka that have a reason to ‘put off’ the learning and training for the next promotion only to regret it later on when lifestyle changes or injury prevent it. The judo grading system is great motivation to keep yourself active and expand your judo knowledge. \n  \nAm I eligible? \n  \nThis opportunity is open to all JudoScotland members graded between 1st Kyu to 4th Dan (you must have been a 1st Kyu for a minimum of 5 years and be a minimum age of 20 to apply for 1st Dan). If you have not yet reached the minimum time in grade you can still attend the weekend\, pass the necessary sections of the theory\, then sit back and wait until you are eligible to apply for your grade. \n  \nNote: \nAchievement of a new grade is attained by passing an examination and is in no way guaranteed. If you are unsuccessful you will be provided with feedback on the areas for development\, may well have at least some of the sections complete and will hopefully enjoy a great weekend of judo with great people![/vc_column_text][vc_button button_color=”color-574589″ border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3DC1B5624632074DF022F4279072F8705C42BDAEF5|target:_blank” button_color_type=”uncode-palette” icon=”fa fa-ticket2″ uncode_shortcode_id=”160438″]Book Event[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]
