SUMMARY:Katame no Kata Course (May 2026)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”641662″]Interested in improving your technical knowledge and ability\, would you like to know more about developing your own judo. Kata has a fundamental place in all judokas development and is an integral part of Kano’s teachings\, kata will hone your technical understanding and application of the technique whilst the randori (not contest training) will challenge and test the skill you have learned. \nOur Katame no Kata course will be run by David Gibson 5th Dan & Colin Dunlop 4th Dan who are BJA Kata Examiners and are medallists from the 2023 & 2024 British Kata Championships. Using their extensive knowledge of Kata they will take you through the course in a way that will provide you with a deeper understanding of the content for you to either develop further yourself or pass on to your students within the club. \nThis course is suitable for judoka over the age of 13 years\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and if possible a white judogi is preferred for kata practice. SUMMARY:Level 1 Coaching Course SCC (East - March)

Who want to start running their own sessions? Or do you yourself want to take the next step in your coaching journey by developing your skills and knowledge? Then the Level 1 Coaching Course may be for you. \nMinimum requirements for entry to the course: \n\nApplicants MUST be a current member of JudoScotland (and be a JudoScotland member for at least one calendar year prior to application to be considered for funding).\nAge : 16 years + (must be 16 years old by the start date of the course)\nGrade : 2nd Kyu (Blue belt)\nAll candidates must be familiar with the Mon/Kyu grade syllabus prior to the course starting.\n\nBlended Learning Format: \nWe now have a blended learning approach to our coaching system\, so please read on before going ahead and booking the course. Prior to attending you will have to complete an online section which we have given you two weeks to complete. Once registration is closed\, all the candidates will be sent a link to our Bright Space platform for you to work through the online modules. \nRegister: \n\nBookings will close on the 19th February at 12 noon\nOnce bookings close\, you will be sent a link to register with Bright Space. During this period you complete the online content.\nAttend the course venue in person on the 1st March 2026\nVideo assessment by the 10th April 2026.\n\nPlease ensure when signing up for this course you are able to attend all of the dates shown above. \n  \nPLEASE READ PAYMENT INFORMATION BELOW \nThe cost for this course is £200. \n*Number of funded places will be limited to 16\, course cost will be £200 thereafter. \n*Assessments completed past the assessment dates forfeit funding and will be chargeable at £75 per assessment. \n  \nOver the last fifteen years JudoScotland have received a subsidy from sportscotland to make coaching more affordable to a wider audience. \nIn 2025/26 sportscotland have updated their focus to shine a spotlight on EDI. This refocus now means that JudoScotland must refresh our subsidy policy moving forward\, through our ‘Judo for All’ strategy we have identified some key target groups that will be considered for financial subsidy against our course costs. \nFor more information on sportscotland updated policy please visit their website here. \n  \nJudoScotland will consider course subsidy applications from all qualifying JudoScotland members who sit in one or more of our target groups for 2025/26. \n\nFemales\nMembers 16 years to 25 years\n\nWith consideration of the additional following categories where possible: \n\nMembers from rural areas\nDisabled members\nMembers from ethnic minorities\nMembers living in 20% most deprived area according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD)\n\nSuccessful applicants will receive funding at the rate of 25%\, 50% or 75% towards the cost of their course. \nTo see if you qualify for subsidy for this event please complete the online form when you have selected your ticket. \nIf your application for subsidy is successful\, a partial refund will be issued to you (upon completion of the course)\, you will also be notified by email. \nIf the applicant agrees to the subsidy offered and accept\, they must complete the course within the dates advertised\, failure to adhere to the agreed dates will result in the funding being forfeited and the applicant being invoiced for the required amount or the subsidy not being granted. \nTHE DATES ABOVE MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

All sessions are delivered by the JudoScotland Disability Officer to ensure a fully inclusive and engaging experience. \n  \nGroup 1: JudoScotland National Regional Adapted & VI Training (Open Entry) \nJudoScotland invites Junior and Senior players to our open-entry National Regional Adapted & VI Training Session. Children under 8 are also welcome! Prior to attending you will have to complete an online section which we have given you two weeks to complete. Once registration is closed\, all the candidates will be sent a link to our Bright Space platform for you to work through the online modules. \n\nRegister\nBookings will close on the 17th October at 12 noon\nOnce bookings close\, you will be sent a link to register with Bright Space\nDuring this period you complete the online content\nAttend the course venue in person on the 2nd November 2025\n\nVIDEO assessment by the 12th December 2025. \nPlease ensure when signing up for this course you are able to attend all of the dates shown above.  \nAll candidates must be familiar with the Mon/Kyu grade syllabus prior to the course starting. \nPLEASE READ PAYMENT INFORMATION BELOW \nThe cost for this course is £200 \n*Number of funded places will be limited to 16\, course cost will be £200 thereafter. \n*Assessments completed past the assessment dates forfeit funding and will be chargeable at £75 per assessment. \nOver the last fifteen years JudoScotland have received a subsidy from sportscotland to make coaching more affordable to a wider audience. \nIn 2024/25 sportscotland have updated their focus to shine a spotlight on EDI. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”193425″]JudoScotland is pleased to announce that we are holding a Technical Official Contest Recorders Course which is the second level of officiating\, applicants must hold a Timekeeper/Scorer qualification to attend this course. \nThe training programme for Contest Recorders is normally done over different levels of competitions\, building on the elements learned as a Timekeeper/Scorer and focuses in on how to run an officiating table at a competition. \nOn successful completion of the training programme candidates will be able to run pools and knockout sections of a competition and run an officiating table. \nThis workshop will be held over three consecutive Thursdays in June\, which will last between 60-90 minutes. \n\n11th June 2025 Part 1\n18th June 2025 Part 2\n25th June 2025 Part 3\n\nAt the end of each workshop\, an assessment will be held. \nYou must complete all three workshops and pass the assessment to gain the Contest Recorder Award. \nTo be eligible you should be: \n\nat least 13 years of age\nHold a Timekeeper/Scorer qualification and have been active at a minimum of 3 events since qualification\nGood communication and ‘people skills’\n\nWhat’s involved? \n\nAwareness of legends and scores.\nAwareness of usual contest times\, osaekomi times and rest times.\nHow to run a table in general.\nHow to run pools or compound knockout.\nUnderstand the procedure when a player fails to appear or withdraws (including calling for a player).\nAwareness of basic safeguarding.\n\nIf you are a non JudoScotland member please email events@judoscotland.com  to secure your place.[/vc_column_text][vc_button border_width=”0″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fjudoscotland.justgo.com%2Fworkbench%2Fpublic%2Fevents%3Fref%3D69654E336E5140A4F86AFA48587BA8E9FB6A4B40|target:_blank” uncode_shortcode_id=”658449″]Book Your Space[/vc_button][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Katame no Kata Course
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”115279″]Interested in improving your technical knowledge and ability\, would you like to know more about developing your own judo. Kata has a fundamental place in all judokas development and is an integral part of Kano’s teachings\, kata will hone your technical understanding and application of the technique whilst the randori (not contest training) will challenge and test the skill you have learned. \nOur Katame no Kata course will be run by David Gibson 5th Dan & Colin Dunlop 4th Dan who are BJA Kata Examiners and are medallists from the 2023 & 2024 British Kata Championships. Using their extensive knowledge of Kata they will take you through the course in a way that will provide you with a deeper understanding of the content for you to either develop further yourself or pass on to your students within the club. \nThis course is suitable for judoka over the age of 13 years\, it would be advantageous to bring a partner you are comfortable working with to get the most from the course and if possible a white judogi is preferred for kata practice. Opportunities to obtain a kata qualification can be discussed on the course and generally kata examinations are held at National Gradings. \nAlthough this course is suitable for coach revalidation\, it is suitable for any judoka open to self improvement and provides information to help successfully complete a judoka’s Dan grade theory. Our National Head Performance Coach Euan Burton MBE recently took part in a kata course with the IJF and commented\, \n“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience of kata during the IJF Academy coaching course. The kata practice really promoted a deep focus on the technical fundamentals of breaking balance\, correct positioning\, and control of the throw.
