JudoScotland is saddened to hear of the passing of John Young of Cluarankwai Judo Club on Sunday 11th of June at the age of 85. John was a longstanding club member, having started Judo in the late 1950s. John spent a lifetime in the sport reaching 4th Dan and becoming a senior coach, coaching thousands of members who progressed through the club during his time. John had many achievements in life and the sport, including serving in the army, becoming a BJA Personal Safety Coaches Assessor, training future coaches with self-defence techniques, coaching BJA Goshin Jutsu, and also as a referee/time keeper/scorer/recorder. John remained an active committee member of the club, serving many roles, including at one point being the Chairman. Although his health prevented him from coaching in the last couple of years he always made sure to keep his hand in, attending the clubs annual competitions and committee meetings, helping to pass the club on to the next generation.
The Judo community will sadly miss him. Our thoughts go out to his wife and family.
