SportsAid Scotland

SportsAid Scotland is a charity that provides financial assistance in the form of grant awards to talented sporting youngsters in the 12 to 22-year age range and to disability athletes of any age who are already competing at national level in their age group and have the potential to represent Scotland at senior level. The finance given is to help the athletes with their travel and training costs, and will hopefully assist them in becoming Scotland’s future sporting stars.

SportsAid Scotland invites nominations each year from the National Governing Bodies of 30 or more sports and disciplines. Nominees must be identified and nominated by their National Governing Body of Sport’s official representatives, based on their talent, their sporting potential, and their financial need. Athletes should meet the following criteria:

  • Performance : Currently competing at national level for their age group, and ranked within the top 3 nationally within their age-group, with potential to represent Scotland at senior level.
  • Age: between 12 and 22 years old; no age limit for disability sports.
  • Funding: should not be in receipt of over £1,000 of other funding, such as lottery-funded or sportscotland funded ‘athlete personal awards’, or Scottish Institute of Sport ‘Winning students’ funding.

JudoScotland is provided with a limited number of spaces for this fund usually within the region of 5-8 depending on the year.
