On behalf of the Board of JudoScotland and its members I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to George Kerr on his promotion to 10th Dan at the weekend. This is fantastic news and I cannot think of a greater accolade of achievement and acknowledgement of a life dedication to Judo. From a personal point of view, and I’m sure for many others as well, George has been someone held in awe and respect for his knowledge of Judo, his contacts in Japan and across the world and indeed all the stories and anecdotes of life in Japan and since.
There are many articles in today’s newspapers and radio so I would encourage you to google George Kerr and read about the Scottish Judoka who has achieved so much and influenced so many people over the years.
Congratulations George on being awarded your Ju dan – be proud, as we are of you!

JudoScotland Talent Development Programme
The JudoScotland Talent Development Programme is supported through investment from Sportscotland. This investment is specifically allocated to ensure the identification and development of young athletes within the elementary stages of the JudoScotland Performance Pathway.
JudoScotland invests all it resources under a directive of ensuring “best practice” and in pursuing this, it is necessary to request athlete contribution for Talent Development activity. This invariably operates on a sliding scale, where increased funding becomes available as and when athletes move along the Performance Pathway and deliver performances at higher levels.
JudoScotland endeavour to ensure that any athlete contributions are subsidised amounts, and represent best value.
The JudoScotland Talent Development Programme will incorporate two distinct yet integrated strands:
Talent Development Squad
Talent Development Performance Squad
The focus of both strands is to develop within young athletes the prerequisite skills and experiences that are necessary to continue along the JudoScotland Performance Pathway. Specifically, the goals of the TDP are:
- To identify talented young Scottish judoka
- To provide training environments where talent can be developed
- To provide competition opportunities that will offer progressive challenges
- To provide preparation opportunities for TDP milestone events
- To provide direction and focus to aspiring performance judoka
